Strength training? Weightlifting? What’s the difference?
Olympic weightlifting is a sport and focuses on two lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. They’re fast movements requiring a lot of mobility.
Strength training covers just about everything else you can do with a barbell: squats, deadlifts, presses etc. It’s great if you’re looking to get stronger or improve in your sport if you’re an athlete from another discipline
It’s also extremely good for your health. Especially as you get older it’s important to lift to ward off osteoporosis and sarcopenia (age-related muscle wastage).

We run group training sessions throughout the week: evenings and weekends. Our bars are highest quality Eleiko.
We welcome everyone including complete beginners, competitive lifters, Masters lifters and split lifters. And you're never too old to start!
Some people prefer to stick with personal training long-term and never join any group training, and of course you're welcome to do that instead. Others choose group training interspersed with occasional one-to-ones, and that works well too.
If you’re a beginner you’ll need a small number of 1-2-1s to learn the technique, so CONTACT US before booking a class.
If you have experience of Olympic weightlifting we'd like to chat to you before you join, so please CONTACT US or call Daphne on 07712 275 064 before booking a class.

Led by a female coach in a friendly, unintimidating environment. You’ll learn all the basic barbell lifts like squats, deadlifts and presses.
INTRO TO BARBELLS: A class for women who’ve always wanted to learn how to squat and lift heavy weights but who either don’t have access to barbells, or feel uncomfortable in commercial gym weight rooms. Suitable for beginners but scales well as you progress to intermediate and beyond. Women only.
STRENGTH CIRCUITS: A strictly cardio-free circuit of lifts. Mixed sex, and suitable for all except complete beginners (try starting with one of our other strength classes for a few sessions first.)
INTRO TO STRENGTH TRAINING: Same format as Intro to Barbells but mixed sex, and includes prehab work. Suitable for both beginners and more advanced lifters.
ALL CLASSES: You’ll be taught proper form and technique for all lifts to avoid injury. You’ll also learn how to use assorted weight-room equipment and you’ll pick up gym etiquette, which will give you the confidence to feel like an insider in any gym.
Wave goodbye to tiny pink dumbbells and pick up a barbell. You’ll find that you’re stronger than you think.
“The atmosphere, with about a dozen women working in pairs, is upbeat and welcoming”
